Helena Horowitz's birth anniversary

On May 9, 1940, Helena Horowitz, daughter of Chaim Horowitz of Czarny Dunajec and his wife Schifra, née Schiffman, was born in Tarnow.

This story recalled, as indeed many previously reported, a journalistic investigation. While describing the extensive history of the Horowitz family of Czarny Dunajec (you can read it here), I came across, thanks to relatives, the photos and story of Chaim Horowitz's first wife and daughter, who lived in Tarnow in the 1930s. The photos survived the war, but not even the names of the wife and daughter survived. After several visits to the Registry Office, however, I managed to find first Chaim's (then already Henryk's) marriage certificate and then his daughter's birth certificate. The nameless people in the photos once again gained names and their story. Chaim married on August 13, 1938 in Tarnow with Schifra Schiffman, who came from Rzuchowa, near Tarnow. Her father was Leib Schiffman, a tailor by trade, and her mother was Sara Estera, née Blum.

With data on the parents and their marriage date, as well as the approximate date of birth of their child and her gender, it was possible after another visit to the USC to obtain a copy of her birth certificate. The daughter of Schifra and Henryk was named Helena and was born on May 9, 1940 in Tarnow - exactly 84 years ago. Unfortunately, both of them probably perished in the Holocaust.

Thank you for the information and photos to the Horowitz family.
