Marriage certificate of Mendel Kleinzahler and Reisel Korngut

Another document that has found its way into our digital archive is an entry in the 1926 marriage book. We are in contact with the descendants of both families. Reisel (Rosa) Korngut was the daughter of Israel Moses Korngut and Lea Mindla Bober (according to relatives, her maiden name was also recorded as Rober or Dober), she was born on 15 February 1900 in Czarny Dunajec, and was one year older than her husband Menachem Mendel Kleinzahler, who was born on 28 February 1901. They were married in Czarny Dunajec by Rabbi Isaac Lipschütz on 26 August 1926.

We know quite a bit about Mendel's family, as the memories of his son Leib, who with his three siblings entered the then British Mandate of Palestine through Iran in 1943, have survived. His wife Tova lives in Israel; Leib (who changed his name to Arie and his surname to Ahidov) died in 1996. Mendel's younger brother was Mejloch, whose letter we described earlier. We will try to describe the whole history of the Kleinzahler family on the website soon.

Little is known, however, about Rosa Korngut's family. There were several families with this surname living in and around Czarny Dunajec (including Chochołów and Wróblówka). We are in contact with her nephew Israel Koren (Korngut), who also lives in Israel, so there is a chance to learn more about her family.

Thank you to Dr Karolina Panz for sending the document.
