Polin Oral History - Kirena Rympel (Horowitz)

The December installment of the POLIN Museum Oral History / Collection series features a recording of an interview with Kirena Rympel, née Horowitz, granddaughter of Józef Szymon Horowitz from Czarny Dunajec.

I have previously described the history of the Horowitz family from Miętustwo/Czarny Dunajec; you can read it here. Kirena Rympel was born in January 1939 in Tarnów. Her father was Eliasz Horowitz, son of Józef and Kreisel Horowitz, who lived in Czarny Dunajec before the war. Her mother was Helena Horowitz, née Reinfeld, the daughter of a rabbi from Stanisławów. The family fled east during the war and survived the Holocaust in Uzbekistan. After the war, Kirena married Ludwik Rympel and died on September 17, 2025, in Krakow. An over hour-long conversation with Kirena Rympel can be watched on the Polin Museum YouTube channel in the series “Polin Oral History”: https://youtu.be/hJuACsyO5G0?si=MFKG9Ye8qbEHfcHG
