Presentation of the new website

After the ceremony commemorating the Holocaust of the Jews from Czarny Dunajec, on Monday, August 28, a meeting was held to promote a new website dedicated to the history of the Jewish community in the region.

The meeting in the auditorium of the Center for Culture and Promotion was of a hybrid nature: it was attended by guests invited to the celebrations, residents of Czarny Dunajec, as well as descendants of Jewish families who participated in the meeting via the Internet.

During the meeting, Michał Szaflarski, the creator of the digital archive of Jews from Czarny Dunajec, which operates at jewishczarnydunajec.pl, showed a presentation and told about the history of the website. The materials collected over several years: photos, documents, family stories, testimonies, were developed and placed on the website, which has a Polish and English language version. You can read about the history of Jews from Czarny Dunajec, stories of several families, descriptions of the cemetery, synagogue, the project "People, not numbers", the action to clean up the Jewish cemetery, the documentary "Edge of Light" and the letter of Mejloch Kleinzahler found in 2022. The website also includes a list of victims of the Holocaust, which was established as part of the "People, not numbers" project. The website will be regularly updated with new materials and information.

During the meeting, which lasted over an hour, conducted in Polish and English, several questions were asked both by the guests gathered in the room and the families of descendants from abroad.

After launching the website, several people contacted us and sent us their family's testimonies of Czarny Dunajec, photos and documents, including a birth certificate. We hope that more people will contact us regarding the handing over of memories of the Jewish community from Czarny Dunajec. Documents can be sent to info@jewishczarnydunajec.pl.

The jewishczarnydunajec website is co-financed by the Forum for Dialogue foundation.
